The Benefits of Drinking American Ginseng Tea
As a part of my continuing holistic journey, I decided to try out ginseng tea. Since the variety of Ginseng tea makes a difference in possible benefits, I decided to try American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius) since some believe it works better as a relaxing agent than the Asian variety.
Before I get too deep into this I want to point out that I am not a doctor and that you should not take medical advice from me. If you are trying to take care of a medical problem with herbal supplements make sure to talk with your doctor first. At the bottom of this article I’ve linked an article that cites the exact studies supporting any possible claims.
Here’s a list of the potential health benefits of American ginseng:
It can possibly enhance short term memory, cognitive function and alertness.
It can help with managing diabetes in addition to regular treatments.
It may help prevent colds and flu.
I ended up getting a box of Baumann Ginseng Tea to try out. They’ve been growing ginseng in Wisconsin since 1978 so they seemed like a great choice to go with.
For this tea you are supposed to steep it for 4-5 minutes. It will stay a very light pale yellow color, but you’ll notice it has kind of a woodsy fragrance on the nose.
The tea naturally has a sweetness to it. It has a very light and almost floral flavor to it. This is definitely a nice one to relax with after a meditation or yoga session.
I’m definitely going to keep drinking ginseng tea at least once a week moving forward. I actually really enjoyed the flavor and love the idea that it could be helping keep my memory sharp and prevent colds.
